If you do travel in congested urban areas, use a laptop computer with a wireless card or other Internet-capable device to access website that provide real-time traffic information. For example, /maps.google.com/ provides real-time travel times as well as valuable information regarding construction delays and traffic incidents for most of the larger urban areas. As an alternative, tune in a local radio station that frequently relates traffic information. This news will enable you to avoid fuel-wasting traffic jams.

A fuel-economy gauge that has a video screen, such as the ScanGaugeII which provides readouts of moment-by-moment mpg, is a great aid in helping you find the driving style that delivers the best fuel economy.
