RV Camping Storage Options

RV Storage Options While Not Camping

RV camping is a lot of fun, it’s easy to do, and it’s pretty convenient. But what can you do with your RV when you’re home? Maybe it won’t fit in your driveway. Maybe you can’t park it on the street. Maybe you do have a place to store it on your property, but you’re concerned about it getting damaged from exposure. So what other RV storage options are there? There are a lot of RV storage options for when you’re between RV camping trips.

If you do have room on your property to store your RV, and local ordinances allow for it to be kept there, then you may just opt to keep your RV close. While convenient, this can leave your RV exposed to the elements, which can lead to damage. There are many options for a home storage set up that will protect your RV, such as a canopy, a mobile storage unit, and other similar items. Remember, though, when storing an RV at home, there are a fair amount of cons. One is that neighbors may not appreciate the big hulking form of your RV. Another is that if the RV is there on Thursday, but gone on Friday, it is a big red flag to anyone who notices that the owners of this home are out of town. Finally, storing an RV on your property takes up a lot of room! If you can barely afford to lose the space, you may want to look into professional RV storage.

Many self storage places also have a section to store cars, boats and RVs. This is a good option if you want to have access to your RV while it’s in storage. A nice benefit to this is that they are almost always kept behind a locked gate which requires a PIN to enter. This provides your RV with a bit of protection against theft, vandalism, and foul play. However, the RV storage areas in many of these locations are uncovered, leaving your RV exposed to weather, the sun, and the many problems that can arise from open storage. There are some storage sites specifically designed for RVs, which offer covered parking spots to protect your RV from the wear and tear of exposure. However, this can lead to a crammed indoor storage situation and your RV may be moved in and out often to accommodate other RVs being placed in or removed from storage. Specialty RV storage companies cater specifically to the RVers needs.

When storing your RV, remember it is best to keep it off grass, gravel and dirt, and to keep the area around it clean. If you are storing your RV on grass, gravel, and dirt, you are inviting a host of pesky creatures to take up residence in your home away from home, including mice, rats, spiders, and other insects. Keeping your RV on pavement will greatly reduce the presence of these pesky critters.

Ultimately, the type of storage that best suits you will depend on your preferences. If you go RV camping very often, or need immediate access to your RV, home storage may be better. If you take long breaks and only go RV camping a couple of times a year, it may be better to store it. Either way, make sure whatever you choose best suites your needs.
